2nd September 2017: JBIMS had the pleasure of hosting Mr. Sushir Lohia, Managing Director, Head of Risk Solutions Group, Asia-Pacific, Barclays for a guest session. He is an alumnus of JBIMS from the MMS Batch of 2000. He was accompanied by Ms. Cherry Parashar, Analyst, Barclays from the JBIMS, MMS Batch of 2017.
The session commenced with Mr. Lohia narrating his journey, right from his education to his experience in the industry. He spoke about his experience at JBIMS and opined how the proximity of the campus to various corporates can be a leveraging factor for the students. From his stint at Citibank to Barclays, he cited his experience while working in the derivatives market and shared key leanings from the same. He also elaborated on his experience with working for Barclays for the past 15 years.
In addition to that, he stressed on importance of certain skills that are required to do well in the corporate domain viz. team-work, attitude towards work as well as others, soft skills and most importantly leadership qualities. Regarding Barclays, he spoke about its work culture and how it inspires people to do their best at work.
Ms. Cherry Parashar shared her summer internship experience and gave insights on working for the past few months at Barclays. She spoke about her training period in New York and the importance of practical knowledge in the corporate world. She also elaborated on the accuracy required for an individual who is working in this industry.
On a concluding lap, the guest lecture ended with an interactive Q&A session. There were discussions on a host of external factors related to the industry, in addition to the experiences of senior leaders of the company.
The session was inspiring and indeed an insightful one. It was extremely helpful for the students intending to pursue a career in finance.
